Companies typically see themselves in the wrong line of work. The New York Times for example is in the business of news, not print. The paper version is simply a distribution channel. So rather than resist electronic forms of distribution such as eReaders, etc., they should embrace it.

Telemarketing outsource companies use cold calling for marketing. Cold calling is not that bad. It just takes a couple of training to have an effective cold calling technique.

Obviously environmental sustainability is on everyone's mind these days. Starbucks is the trend spotter and yes they are riding the marketing campaign of being green. However, who said this is going to be successful. Business profitability has nothing to do with being green! Often times they are the complete opposite.

I think people often have much to criticize and complain about things corporations don't do well. How about let's start with ourselves first? What have we done to change the world and the environment?

Corporation are built by people who runs them. I'm sure everyone who works at Starbucks are trying their best just like we do in our daily lives.

Comment from Facebook: I wish other companies can do 1/2 or 1/4 what Starbucks does. Let's talk about Apple Inc. They donated $0 money to Hatti while Starbucks donated millions! At least Starbucks is doing something. Offering good business practices by being green and taking care of it's employees. Yes, I think they are working on marketing the image of the company. Which is important because people will only support companies that inline with their personal values.

Comment from Facebook: Good point. At least they are trying to bring a green market to a mass population. I think for large, med and small co's could and should take steps and set an example. This stunt may get people into their stores and thus buy a $10 travel mug which makes them $7 just for a free cup of jo for Joe, but at least it might get people to bring their mugs... See More back and getting into the grove of reduce, reused, recycle. I know I have several sbux mugs and I never bring them to sbux ( I use them for my home made coffee).

Well maybe that's what I need to do...blanch them. As a child my parents had a "brussel sprout lady." We drove a couple hours to visit with her and we would return home with a bunch of brussel sprouts. Never understood why.
